Mt. Hood & Columbia River Gorge Region Map, Travel Oregon
An illustrated map created of the Mt. Hood & Columbia River Gorge Region. The map was required to show visitors to the area all of the potential activities and sites. There had previously been issues that tourists would all flock to the same areas but ignore other sites that were off the beaten track or lesser known. The map needed to included the ‘Infinity Loop’ trail that could be followed to make the most of the whole area. The brief was to create a map that was characterful whilst also being accurate enough that it could be followed by tourists who needed to know how to visit these places.
The final map was printed as 10,000 tear off maps available at all Tourist Offices in the area. The response from visitors was incredibly positive, “They are loving the map!!!! People are obsessed and many are taking one to use and one to frame.”
The flexibility of the hand drawn elements on the map that has then been digitalised means that the map is future proof an has ultimate flexibility. It also leaves scope for different variations of the same map to be created, such as food trails, history trails and nature trails to name a few.
